Tree limbs, metal siding, and debris from wind-destroyed building structures are just a few examples of projectiles that collide into AHUs during high-wind events. Extreme winds can also create inherent frame and cabinet wall pressure stress.
An air handling unit can survive a hurricane if it’s properly designed and tested for the most extreme conditions, and Miami-Dade County has established a set of building standards specifically designed around HVHZ conditions.
Ventrol®-brand Air Handlers
Nortek Air Solutions recently announced that its Ventrol®-brand air handlers are available with Miami-Dade County High Velocity Hurricane Zone compliance certification for aluminum construction.
All aluminum constructed units are rated to wind speeds up to 216 miles per hour / 120 pounds per sq. foot.
Beyond Coastal Applications
Any location that experiences extreme weather conditions can realize benefits through:
- Compliance with standards
- Reliability in extreme conditions
- Reduced downtime
- Increased trust and assurance
