TBCo Community Involvement: Himalayan Children’s Charities Update

HCC update 2021

Posted on May 24, 2021

As part of Tom Barrow Company’s ongoing commitment to giving back to our communities, we are proud to work with Himalayan Children’s Charities, an organization that creates paths out of poverty for vulnerable at-risk youth in Nepal. TBCo is pleased to continue our sponsorship of Bipana, a Nepali student in the HCC community.

The latest update from HCC shares that the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a yearlong school closure, putting rural Nepali children at high risk. With the support of sponsors like TBCo, the Kathmandu-based students in HCC’s community have attended school virtually, and all of them have progressed to the next grade level. That’s great news!

Update on Bipana

Bipana spent much of the lockdown studying for her SEE (secondary education examination) exam, which was postponed due to the pandemic. Bipana typically lives in Kathmandu during the school year, where her college is located, but returned to the village to live with her HCC family during lockdown where she enjoyed spending time with the community and learning new skills, like sowing rice. She successfully passed her online entrance exam to grade eleven and is thrilled to be back at college in Kathmandu safely attending in-person classes.
